I’ve Seen The Lights of Broadway

Posted by admin on February 4, 2012 in Holiday, Musical Theatre |

We arrived in New York City on the 28th of February, and was on such a high that we forgot we had been on a 29 hour flight from Melbourne.

We left Melbourne at 11:40am (it was supposed to leave at 11:20am) Melbourne time on the 28th of February. We touched town in LAX at 6:45am on 28th of February and left LAX en route to JFK at 8:50am. Bare with me, I know this is confusing. We then arrived at JFK Airport at 5:00pm on the 28th of February. Yes, we went back in time. It’s amazing how time works.

When we arrived at JFK Airport, we only had to wait 10 or so minutes for our luggage to be picked up. As soon as we picked up our bags, we were out of there and straight in to a taxi that took us straight into Manhattan Island. It only cost us $45, plus tax and tips. Overall, I think we spent $55 on that cab ride. It seemed to take forever to get to Manhattan, even though it was actually no more than a 20 minute cab ride. It was definitely worth the wait. You get to this point just before you enter the island where you see the whole city. The picturesque view of this city could be mistaken for a seen in a movie. It almost felt like a dream, and I just wanted to be pinched (mentally, not physically, I don’t like being pinched) to snap me out of it. But no, all the hard work from the past year, saving and sacrificing nice dinners for baked beans and bread, was definitely worth it.

By the time we arrived in our hotel, it was 7:00pm on the 28th of February. We literally dropped our bags, took a few shots of our hotel room (so we can put it up on Trip Advisor) and then headed over TWO blocks to 42nd Street. Nothing compares to the feeling of being in a city that never sleeps. It is the most fantastic feeling. You step in to the Broadway strip and you just never want to step off again.

We spent the next two hours just walking around and getting our bearings. It was a moment of “There’s Anything Goes, OMG there’s Porgy and Bess, OMG there’s Priscilla, OMG…” and the list of shows goes on.

Now, I am a very emotional person. When someone captures me in the moment I just tear up. And of course this moment was no different. Nothing compares to that feeling and I will always remember the first time I saw Times Square and looked up at the lights in awe.

After walking around, we then realised we hadn’t eaten a decent proportioned meal in about 24 hours. So we went to Galaxy Diner on the corner of West 46th and 9th Ave. I had a half pound burger that came with “fries”. Yes! It’s true, their burgers here are HUGE!!! I am astounded by how cheap meals are here. If this was Melbourne, Tyson and I would’ve paid $30 for one meal. Here, we paid no more than $17.

After that meal, it was time for bed. I couldn’t over indulge. If I did, I would be a wreck right now from the lack of sleep.

Night one ends with a nice comfortable bed.

My next post will consist of shows I’ve seen so far.

Quiet

Earlier this month, I recorded myself singing Jonathan Reid Gealt’s Quiet.

Now it’s not the best quality as it was done on my phone, but here it is.

Iligan City devastated by Sendong

Posted by admin on December 21, 2011 in Uncategorized |

Hi guys!

As you guys may have heard, parts of the Philippines was ravaged by the tropical storm Sendong. Unfortunately, the main city that was hit was my home city, Iligan City. The death toll is about 1000 and it’s still climbing.

None of my immediate family were heavily affected but some members of my extended family have lost everything.

I’d like to ask for your help. If you guys could donate $1 to this devastating cause I would greatly appreciate it. $1 goes a long way in the Philippines.

Many thanks in advance. NICO x

I thought I’d share some photos I found online on Facebook and Twitter. These photos were taken just before the storm hit Melbourne.
